Ruben Lee Sims - World of Blues mp3 download
Features Song Lyrics for Frankie Lee Sims's Essential Blues album.
The Blues has traveled around the world and back again, and our list reflects this and they do! but to our ears they sound pretty good. Chicago was not the only place to hear the Blues: in Detroit John Lee Hooker's mesmerising one-chord boogies had people dancing, and in New Orleans their piano and sax driven music had a 'rhumba-boogie' beat. Professor Longhair's funky piano opened the way for Fats Domino and Little Richard to play what became known as Rock'n'Roll when it crossed over into the mainstream. This three album set covers his work over 25 years from his first session in 1947, and mixes the essential singles with rare unreleased tracks to give a comprehensive chronicle of the King of Electric Blues.
The Grammy Award for Best Traditional Blues Album was awarded from 1983 to 2011 and from 2017 onwards. Until 1992 the award was known as Best Traditional Blues Performance and was twice awarded to individual tracks rather than albums. The award was discontinued after the 2011 Grammy season in a major overhaul of Grammy categories. From 2012 onwards, the category was merged with the Best Contemporary Blues Album category to form the new Best Blues Album category.

By the time Frankie Lee Sims got to make his first proper recordings in 1953 he had almost four decades of hard living under his belt. He was one of 13 children born into poverty in New Orleans to a mother and father who were both accomplished guitarists. When the family moved to Marshall, Texas, in the early 1920s, Frankie’s own feeling for music was sparked by encounters with his cousin Sam Lightnin’ Hopkins whose guitar prowess had been nurtured by another cousin, Texas Alexander. Sims saw the guitar as his one chance of a ticket out of penury. After four years in the US marines he returned to his music with renewed focus and by the late 1940s had established himself in the Dallas blues scene where T-Bone Walker was king. After a couple of false starts in 1948 and ’49 a recording career finally materialised in 1953 courtesy of Speciality records.
