Jan Janca’s music reflects his personal experience. Showing remarkable wisdom he succeeds in combining music for practical liturgical use with the highest artistic aspirations. The Missa de Angelis, composed in 1979 and including congregational song, impressively demonstrates this fact. plus they are very popular – not only in Catholic parish communities. Janca is now over eighty years old and traces his roots to Gdansk. Volker Hedtfeld conducts the performance, with support from Heiko Holtmeier on the organ.
The German conductor, Volker Hedtfeld, found early on his way to the music. In addition to music lessons (violin, viola, organ and piano), he discovered his passion for singing in particular. He has gained experience with 17 years as choir director of youth and church choirs. He first studied music education at the Musikhochschule in Köln. In 1999, Volker Hedtfeld created his first vocal group Opus 99 and was particularly successful, with concerts in the Ruhr and Rhineland. In 2000 he moved to orchestral conducting studies with Professor Lutz Köhler at the Universität der Künste in Berlin. With this choir he has since performed regularly choral-symphonic works. As co-founder of the Langen Nacht der Chöre (Long Night of the choirs) he has contributed to the threatened closure of the Reformationskirche as a concert and meeting place. In 2002, he founded the chamber choir Opus Vocale.
