British singer, songwriter Shakin 'Stevens (Shakin' Stevens, ur. Michael Barrett) was born on March 4, 1948 in the South Wales town of Ely, in the County of Cardiff, the son of a miner, who already had 10 daughters. Stevens heard early rock 'n' roll as a child, and a lasting impression on him made the film "Rock Around the Clock". He sang in the school, "Heartbreak Hotel" and spit his hips like Elvis, for which classmates nicknamed him "Shaky": "When I was in the Welsh school, there revolved a lot of records of this kind.
