Jochen Kowalski (born 30 January 1954) is a German alto or mezzo countertenor, noted for his very rich timbre.

German countertenor Jochen Kowalski came into the operatic scene as an altist in the mid-1980's, debuting the title role in Handel's rarely performed late opera 'Giustino'. In this album dedicated solely to arias of Handel and Mozart, one aria of Giustino is included, together with significant collections of Handel and Mozart. In the current era when countertenors have finally gained universal prominence in classical operatic performances, listening to Kowalski makes a wonderful reference. Kowalski can best be described as perhaps the first true operatic countertenor.
