The Limeliters' album, Tonight in Person reached number 5 in the . Their second album made the top 40, and their third release, The Slightly Fabulous Limeliters, made the top ten in the same year. But their one album with the longest staying power is undoubtedly their album of folk songs for children of all ages, Through Children's Eyes.

There's nothing really wrong with it. It's just that we've come to expect so much more from the Limeliters that this pleasant but relatively ordinary album comes as a disappointment.

The Limeliters were part of the "Folk Revival" genre of the USA in the early 1960's, very talented and very commercial. This might put off some folk "purists", but the music and talent speaks for itself, and is very entertaining. On this album, the group chose to record exclusively songs out of the American folk music canon. The performances are excellent

I agree with the first reviewer about this album: Allmusic does not do it justice in its review. I had all of the previous Limeliters albums and this one is their equal if not better in terms of performance. Glenn Yarbrough's singing on Farethewell is a highlight of the Limeliter's whole career, which in turn was a top act of the Folk Revival. The material is culled from the American Folk Music Canon, but not necessarily of songs with 100's of years of existence. If fault might be found, it would be in that some of the songs are somewhat over-arranged: Blow the Candles Out being an example, to be compared with the Kingston Trio's version, possibly Hangman, Hangman as well. Sometimes Hassilev's and Gottlieb's singing is a bit too smug. But these are minor sins; the instruments are played with complete virtuosity. The album is great and lives up fully to the Limeliters' reputation as an outstanding folk group. One note for collectors: RCA seems to have deleted this album and it does not appear as a CD. The great majority of the songs on it can be found on the CD "The Limeliters' 36 All-Time Greatest Hits" BMG, DRC3-1832, Entertainment Distributing #15370.

I don't have any other Limeliters albums, so I can't say how this compares with their other works, but this is a fantastic album, with terrific songs that include rousing renditions of Midnight Special and Drill Ye Tarriers. It's an absolutely glorious album, and I don't see how it could possibly be considered a mediocre work regardless of their other albums.
