Yosuke Onuma - guitar, Jacques Schwarz-Bart - sax, Milan Milanovic - Rhodes, Reggie Washington - bass, Olivier Juste, Arnaud Dolmen - percussion, Stephanie McKay - vocal, Joe Powers - harmonica. After releasing three groove-jazz albums, in 2004 Onuma released his ground-breaking fourth album, The Three Primary Colors, recorded as a trio with Richard Bona (bass) and Ari Hoenig (drums) in New York. This highly acclaimed album showed a change in Onuma’s style which still holds to this day; a style characterized by exclusively using oning the use of a guitar pick entirely. He performed at the Tokyo Jazz Festival, the largest of its kind in Japan, in 2005 and 2006. In 2007, he had a rousing performance at the Java Jazz Festival, held in Jakarta.

On his 6th SACD Onuma plays a more rock-oriented electric jazz with his partners who are greats in the fusion-scene. Eight songs were written by Onuma, who is a wonderful young composer and guitar player, one track comes from Goines and Affirmation is, as far as I know, the first sition on a jazz record. Most of the music is of the electric kind, some with driving up tempo rhythms and some great soloing, but there are fantastic acoustic tracks, too.

Primary colors are everywhere when we take the time to notice. So are Secondary and Tertiary colors. As a creative person, you are likely inspired by the colors you see in the world. In Theory, Primary Colors are the root of every other color. So in other words, you could conceivably mix gazillions of colors with only three pure Primary pigments of Yellow, Red and Blue. Of course that's what they teach us in school. However, as I wrote in a previous Color Wheel post, color is not an exact science.
