the doors feast of friends.

Feast of Friends, a Doors documentary that the band members produced themselves on their 1968 summer tour, is finally getting a proper release. The new release, due out November 11th, will feature remastered audio and video. It’s a fictional documentary, Jim Morrison says in the film’s trailer

The Doors were founded by Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison in Los Angeles in 1965. They released their eponymous debut album, which contained their hit single Light My Fire, in 1967 and went on to be one of the most controversial and influential rock acts of the sixties. Jim Morrison’s early death in Paris in 1971 only served to fuel their legend and both he and the band have continued to enjoy iconic status for more than fifty years.

In the following interview, Densmore discusses the band's interest in cinema, their subdued backstage routines and what he considers to be the group's finest performance on film. What was the idea going in to Feast Of Friends? In one part of the film, Jim calls it a fictional documentary. Was that a term you guys actually threw around? I don’t know what Jim meant by that, actually

A documentary about the Doors, made by the Doors. It is filmed by two UCLA mates of Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrisson. It shows the atmosphere between the members and a live version of The End. Director: Paul Ferrara.

Feast of Friends, filmed in 1968, was the first and only film produced about The Doors by The Doors. It offers a cinematic look at The Doors on the road during their summer ’68 tour. Whilst never truly completed, the film provides a stylistic approach in true sixties cinéma vérité style. Concert performances are intercut with fly-on-the-wall footage of the group in their natural habitat, sometimes playful, sensitive, chaotic and touching
