A quick sophomore release following the previous year's Baker Sings Chet, Monologue is another chance for jazz singer Jeff Baker to come out of his Idahoan hiding place. The songs vary a good deal more than the Chet Baker repertoire of his debut, and provide a larger palette for him to work with. As such, there's a greater spectrum of sound as a result. Baker holds on to a melancholy tune quite well, opening the album with a couple of such numbers. Other pieces demand a slightly faster, more jumping approach. Baker doesn't disappoint, but his seemingly Hartman-inspired delivery.

Jeff Baker’s followup to 2004’s Baker Sings Chet features new looks at a collection of great standards including That Old Feeling, I Didn’t Know What Time it Was, and 10 others. Arranged by former Nneena Freelon musical director Bill Anschell and featuring saxophonist Brent Jensen, Monologue is an unpretentious, eclectic set of music. infectious persona, energy, and talen. fresh sound in vocal jazz. Jeff Fox, JazzWorks. Jeff Baker – vocals Bill Anschell – piano Doug Miller – bass John Bishop – drums Brent Jensen – alto&soprano saxes David Sabee – cello.

Baker's melodies are lofty and light and his voice, solid with a rich hint of androgyny, meld well with the lyrics garnered.

Baker Sings Chet is the debut album from Jeff Baker, a Boise native that generally sings the choir and club circuits of the area. It's also a clever little play on Chet Baker's debut album title, Chet Baker Sings. The songs presented are all items that were associated with Chet Baker's repertoire over the years, with his classics all here to be heard. The musicians, aside from Baker, are largely veterans from the Origin Records stables, with Rob Walker, Brent Jensen, and Stan Bock leading the horn sections, Chuck Smith on piano, Jeff Rew on bass, and Steve Hill on drums.
