Felix Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto in E minor, Op. 64, is his last large orchestral work. It forms an important part of the violin repertoire and is one of the most popular and most frequently performed violin concertos in history. A typical performance lasts just under half an hour. Mendelssohn originally proposed the idea of the violin concerto to Ferdinand David, a close friend and then concertmaster of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra.

Felix 's Piano Concerto in A minor, the product of a fertile 13-year-old mind, is so generally unknown that most references - especially older ones - refer to the man as having composed only two concertos for the instrument, the Concerto No. 1 in G minor of 1831 and the Concerto No. 2 in D minor of. 1837 (as you can see, the A minor Concerto has never even earned its own number, as it was absent from the scene when numbers were allotted). Loewe and Mendelssohn were the two piano soloists on that occasion. This concerto and its predecessor, the E major concerto, may be the first works composed for full orchestra by Mendelssohn. The concerto may have been inspired by the occasion when Mendelssohn met Ignaz Moscheles in Berlin in 1824, when Moscheles accepted an invitation to visit Abraham Mendelssohn Bartholdy to give some music lessons to his children Felix and Fanny There are three movements
