Memphis Blues is the tenth studio album by American singer Cyndi Lauper. Regarded as a continuation of her 2008 comeback the album was a nominee for the Grammy Awards 2010 and was released on her 57th birthday, June 22, 2010. According to the Brazilian daily newspaper O Globo, the album had sold 600,000 copies worldwide by November 2010. Memphis Blues was voted the 7th best album of 2010 by the New York Post, and it went on to become Billboard's biggest selling blues album of 2010

Born John Len Chatman in Memphis, he adopted his father's name Peter, who was a blues musician. He moved to Chicago in the 1930s where he was mentored by Big Bill Broonzy, and began cutting sides as a leader in 1939 for Okeh and Bluebird (3). Although performed under the name Memphis Slim, he published songs that he had written under the name . His prolific recording career also included sides for Peacock Records, Chess, and Vee Jay Records, among many other labels. He moved to Paris in 1961, living there until his death in 1988

He led a series of bands that, reflecting the popular appeal of jump blues, included saxophones, bass, drums, and piano. A song he first cut in 1947, "Every Day I Have the Blues", has become a blues standard, recorded by many other artists. He made over 500 recordings.
