Seattle-based sonic daredevils Mars Accelerator fill their second full-length album with noisy, ear-splitting, angular, and often atonal guitar rock textures. Earning a name for themselves in the independent rock world with their 1996 debut, I Am the South Pole, this group shows no sign of mellowing or adapting their sound to the preferences of the average human ear. Typical of earlier works is the unsettling, semi-discordant nature of the group's twin guitar work, caused by the use of pitch/tone warping effects, whammy bars, and bent strings

The planet Mars has two permanent polar ice caps. During a pole's winter, it lies in continuous darkness, chilling the surface and causing the deposition of 25–30% of the atmosphere into slabs of CO2 ice (dry ice). When the poles are again exposed to sunlight, the frozen CO2 sublimes. These seasonal actions transport large amounts of dust and water vapor, giving rise to Earth-like frost and large cirrus clouds.

This image acquired on October 5, 2018 by NASAs Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, shows a new impact crater that formed between July and September 2018. NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, a division of Caltech in Pasadena, California, manages the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter Project for NASA's Science Mission Directorate, Washington.

The most striking landscape feature on Mars’ North Pole is Chasma Boreale. The prominent Martian ice cap was discovered by Dutch astronomer Christiaan Huygens in 1672, and as early as 1681 Friedrich Wilhelm Herschel observed that both polar caps change throughout the seasons on Mars.

Buried ice deposits in the south polar region of Mars, close to Ulyxis Rupes at about 72°S/162°E. The image was obtained by Mars Express on 15 January 2011 during orbit 8995 using the High Resolution Stereo Camera. South is to the left, north is to the right. Activity Space Science. Mars south pole and beyond, topography. Numerous patterns of dark, dusty dune deposits are also visible, swept up by wind and accumulating in impact craters and troughs. Towards the top left of the image a portion of the giant Hellas basin can be seen. This feature spans more than 2200 km across and plunges some 8 km below the surface. Two prominent channels – Dao Vallis and Niger Vallis – can be seen breaching the basin rim, made out as thin, dark wiggly lines in the colour image.
