This double album looks in on a rural West Virginia family in the early '70s and examines how they assimilated assorted country and folk forms into their back-porch playing and their lives.

His is the story of a remarkable West Virginia family, the excitement they generated among a group of musicians (several of them nascent folklorists), and the relationships that developed between amateur and professional documentarians of folklife. The ensuing collaborations were both productive, resulting in recordings that are still influential in old-time music and chaotic in their archival results. Those tapes introduced the family to the folklorist Patrick Gainer and intersected with the Hammons family proj ect carried out for the Library of Congress by Alan Jabbour and Carl Fleischhauer in the early 1970s, which included other significant contributions from Diller.

According to original case records in the Webster County courthouse, Edden's and Caroline's marriage was not legally dissolved until 1897. On April 1 of that year Edden was granted a divorce on the grounds that his wife left him after three weeks of marriage for no apparent reason.

A family tradition is anything that the family does together on a regular basis that joins members and celebrates the family bond. In fact, most families probably already have traditions. A tradition doesn't have to be a big, expensive event; just something that brings the family together, strengthening the relationship among siblings, parents and even extended family
