Barnstorm, Joe Walsh's first solo album after leaving the James Gang, garnered him fame not only as a guitarist but also as a songwriter. While it's true that Walsh established himself as a guitar hero on the Gang's more boogie-oriented rock numbers, it's Walsh's love of lushly textured production and spacy, open-ended songs featuring both acoustic and electric guitars that is showcased here on this wildly adventurous and forgotten, unqualified masterpiece

The song was originally released on the album Barnstorm. Walsh later covered the song for his solo album So What, and released it as a single. The single peaked at on the US Billboard chart. In 1976, Walsh recorded the song on his You Can't Argue with a Sick Mind album

Barnstorm is the debut studio solo album by the American singer-songwriter and t Joe Walsh, following his departure from the James Gang. The album was released in October 1972 on the labels ABC and Dunhill. The core band on this album – Walsh, bassist Kenny Passarelli and mentalist Joe Vitale – was also named Barnstorm. It was the first album to be recorded at Caribou Ranch in Colorado.

In 1981 Walsh and former Barnstorm bandmate, Joe Vitale, went to work on old friend John Entwistle's fifth solo album Too Late the Hero, whenever they were free to work on it. The album turned out to become John Entwistle's best-charting solo album, with hit singles "Talk Dirty" and "Too Late the Hero". After I heard a few songs off of this LP, on KLOL Fm in Houston, I bought the 8 track tape. My brother, Tommy, and I loved The James Gang. To me, this was Joe's magnum opus. All the songs are great. Now, I have the LP "Rocky Mountain Way" on CD and enjoy listening to it with the volume up high. Takes me back to those wild and crazy '70s. Enjoy, everyone!

In the late sixties I was a fan of the James Gang, read the liner notes often, so when i saw this album, i picked it up and as soon as the needle hit the grooves, i knew i found something special. The spacious guitars and keyboards took me to a new level, aided by the smoked herb i indulged in at the time. side one was a series of song connected by sound effects, side two was more a group of stand alone songs. this is a fantastic album. i listened to it through the seventies and eighties until i traded my turntable for a cd player in '88. so i searched for this gem physically, or rather, digitally, which was a challenge in that this was not available to me, not available on iTunes or from amazon, until i found one in the late aughts' for an incredibly inflated price that i paid and hid that cost from my wife. it is available at reasonable pricing now, thankfully.

This is a forgotten masterpiece in the rock pantheon. Any seventies fm rock fan needs to give this a try if they haven't done so previously. Joe raises his artistic credibility about a thousandfold here. I got this album in a quarter vinyl bin 20+ years ago and seriously consider it the best return on investment I've ever made or will ever make
