Nong Rock (1992) for komungo and string quartet employs many shaken, sliding, multiple vibratos to move the tones, giving the sense of each sound being a living being. Midway through, the music employs a more steady, rock & roll-influenced texture, almost as an interlude. Then the tonalities become cosmic.

Jin Hi Kim (born February 6, 1957 in Incheon, South Korea) is a composer and performer of komungo and electric komungo, and a Korean music specialist. Kim is known as a pioneer for introducing geomungo (거문고, a Korean fretted board zither, also spelled komungo) to American contemporary classical music scene through her own cross-cultural chamber and orchestral compositions and her extensive solo work in avant-garde, as well as cross-cultural free improvisation.

Jin Hi Kim, innovative komungo performer and a Guggenheim Fellow in Music Composition, has performed as a soloist in her Living Tones compositions at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Smithsonian Freer Gallery of Art, Asia Society, Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin) and around the world.
