Aynsley Thomas Dunbar (born 10 January 1946) is an English drummer. Dunbar was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of Journey in 2017.

The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation (album). The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation is a 1968 debut album created by The Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation, a vehicle for drummer Aynsley Dunbar after stints in John Mayall's Bluesbreakers and The Jeff Beck Group. The album was released in 1968 in Canada, France, Sweden, UK, US with a limited re-release the following year. The cover art was designed by Hipgnosis.

Though their records received some positive press, and the band toured heavily (including six weeks in the United States in early 1969), they didn't crack the LP charts. At the request of management, a fourth album, Remains to Be Heard, was posthumously compiled, in part using outtakes from To Mum, from Aynsley and the Boys. Dunbar had by far the most impressive career after the demise of the group, going on to play with Frank Zappa, Journey, and Whitesnake. In addition to playing with Mayall, Dmochowski subsequently worked with Morshead in Heavy Jelly, as well as doing sessions with Zappa, Graham Bond, and Peter Green.

Dunbar had expressed some interest in moving further afield from the blues-rock format around the time the record was done, and the addition of keyboardist Tommy Eyre (from the Grease Band) to the lineup was one step in that direction. The enlistment of John Mayall as producer was perhaps another step in attempting to refine their sound. Although a fourth Aynsley Dunbar Retaliation album (Remains to Be Heard) would be cobbled together from outtakes and recordings done without Dunbar, their third LP, To Mum, From Aynsley and the Boys, was truly the final proper full-length release by the original group. Dunbar had expressed some interest in moving further afield from the blues-rock format around the time the record was done, and the addition of keyboardist Tommy Eyre (from the Grease Band) to the lineup was one step in that direction.
