The band's latest, Old Wild Hearts, is a similar transition: The songs are even more polished, the pace is a touch slower and the pop influences are even more prevalent than before. For those unaware, the band feature members of the Soviettes, Dear Landlord, Banner Pilot and Rivethead, and those bands are a fairly good reference point for the Gateway District's pop-punk sound. The Gateway District's Perfect's Gonna Fail was probably my most listened to album of 2011, and one I still find myself listening to today. Old Wild Hearts doesn't quite live up to its predecessors' brilliance, but it remains a terrific album in its own right, and will no doubt continue to find itself in frequent rotation on my MP3 player.

This week we come to blows over The Gateway District's new album "Old Wild Hearts," as well as some discussion of our top 5 band names, discussion of that infamous John Roderick article, Against Me!, Future Virgins, that weird scene in High Fidelity, and more RVIVR discussion.
Hey there- the debut album by Partial Traces (three people from Gateway District) is out now! Go check it out on our bandcamp page. You can also purchase it digitally or on vinyl there.
The Gateway District have constructed a well put-together album that never runs out of steam or drags, as it works that thick, overdriven Jawbreaker base into an insistent cohesive work. Joe Briggs, Punknews. Some Days You Get The Thunder is just a straightforward, bass-heavy pop-punk record with deep, catchy and perfect female vocals that aren’t polished or poppy like we see so often these days. Bobby Gorman, The Punk Site). The band's ability to write a hook is plenty evident on Old Wild Hearts, perhaps no more so than on "Tell You Why," with a sugary-sweet anthemic chorus that may be the catchiest thing the band have written. Darren McLeod, Punknews. On their debut album, the Gateway District manage to sound like the post-punk professionals they are and at the same time to maintain a salutary level of relaxed noisiness.
Gateway District continue to do just that with Old Wild Hearts, their third full length album. With each new record they get better and move on. The familiar patterns of the past are still present, but only those that make way for improvement remain. Strengths are reaffirmed and expanded upon. Weaknesses are cast aside. but maybe not this time.
