Francesco d'Avalos (Naples, 11 April 1930 – Naples, 26 May 2014) was an Italian conductor and composer. Holder of the aristocratic titles of Prince d'Avalos and Marquis of Vasto and Pescara, d'Avalos was also a descendant of the uncle of Maria d'Avalos, the murdered first wife of Carlo Gesualdo. d'Avalos acknowledged that the Italian composer Antonio Favasta convinced his parents to allow him to study music. He began music studies at age 12, including piano studies with Marta De Conciliis, and later with Vincenzo Vitale. Muzio Clementi - Symphony in B-flat major, O. 8, N. (ca. 1785).
The Andante Op. 69 No. 2 clocks in nearly three minutes faster than the weightier Francesco D’Avalos/Philharmonia Orchestra recording, and benefits from cellist Andrea Noferini’s warm tone and fluid phrasing. By contrast, La Vecchia takes two minutes more than D’Avalos over the Op. 70 No. 1 Notturno, yet generates plenty of sustaining power and chamber-like textural diversity. A fine start to a promising cycle, warmly recommended. Recording Details: Reference Recording: Symphony No. 1: Bakels/Malaysian Philharmonic (BIS)
