Beethoven: An die ferne Geliebte mp3 download

Album: Distant Beloved (2019). Artists: Людвиг ван Бетховен, Simon O'Neill, Terence Dennis.

An die ferne Geliebte (To the distant beloved), Op. 98, is a composition by Ludwig van Beethoven written in April 1816. It is considered to be the first example of a song cycle by a major composer. Beethoven's only song cycle was the precursor of a series of followers, including those of Franz Schubert, Robert Schumann and Carl Loewe. The setting is for a man's voice (usually tenor) with piano.

An die ferne Geliebte is so integrated that no one of its six songs can be satisfactorily excerpted, while Schwanengesang is a frankensteinian admixture of musically and poetically contrasting scraps assembled only after the composer's death.

Beethoven: Gesang aus der Ferne, WoO137. I'm fast becoming a connoisseur of the various recordings of An die ferne Geliebte. I've been listening to everything I can get my hands on as I'm preparing this cycle for an upcoming recital, and let me tell you, there isn't much worth your time I had not heard this album prior to purchasing it, but was familiar with Adelaide and Der Wachtelschlag. My German is very poor (a couple of semesters in college), so I listened to the music while trying to read both the German and English lyrics.

An die ferne Geliebte. Beethoven himself called it Liederkreis an die ferne Geliebte, . a circle or ring of song, and it is so written that the theme of the first song reappears as the conclusion of the last, forming a 'circle' (Liederkreis) – a ring in the figurative sense of a finger-ring as a love-token – rather than a 'cycle' (Liederzyklus) in the sense of. a programme or drama. This thematic revolution is also expressed in the emotion and conceit of the words.
