Battles - EP. The East.

Label: Warp Records ‎– WARP CD156. Format: CD, Album, Gatefold. When Battles' debut, MIRRORED, comes on with the frenzy of drums of "Race: In" (quickly augmented by a twitchy guitar and some whistling), you know you're in for something new. Though you could classify them under the vague, amorphous term of 'post rock,' they forge their own direction with their careful instrumentation and tighter song structure than is ordinarily associated with 'post rock.

Progressive Rock Battles.

B EP is a 2004 EP by the American math rock band Battles. It was part of a trio of EPs released by Battles over the course of three months, and has been called "another sketchbook revealing where the group could end up in the future. B EP was released on Warp Records. Dave Konopka – Bass, Guitar, Effects. John Stanier – Drums. Ian Williams – Guitar, Keyboards. Tyondai Braxton – Guitar, Keyboards, Vocals.

Warp) UK release date: 14 May 2007. by David McGonigle published: 14 May 2007 in Albums. Atlas is the second track on the quartet’s first album, Mirrored. Having listened to their previous release on Warp, a collection of their B and C EPs called, somewhat inevitably, EP C/B, I’d been pretty underwhelmed. The playing was good, the songs were fine, but Battles seemed unable to decide on whether they were a free-jazz improv outfit, a minimalist techno combo, or a bunch of post-rockers that had bought tickets but managed to miss the bandwagon by several years. I had them filed under ‘M’ for ‘Meh’.

Battles are an experimental rock outfit hailing from New York whose debut studio album released in 2007 has been hailed as somewhat of a math rock masterpiece (a mathsterpiece") – a sentiment I firmly stand by. Leading up to this release Battles released two EPs under the names ‘EP C’ and ‘B EP’ respectively. These EPs only hinted at what Battles had hidden under their sleeves, and in hindsight it’s almost as if they were holding back to make their debut that much more impressive

Because Battles are tough without being confrontational, innovative without recourse to bells and whistles, and completely transparent in process. When they're good, they're great; when they're anything less than good, they're so thrillingly alien it doesn't matter. This compiled material basically amounts to a black hole: 66 minutes of the most hypnotic instrumental music currently being purveyed outside techno or Japan

Listen free to Battles – Mirrored (Race: In, Atlas and more). Mirrored is the critically acclaimed debut full-length album by . math rock group Battles. It was released on May 14, 2007 in the United Kingdom, and on May 22, 2007 in the United States. This is the first time the band has incorporated vocals into their songs, as the previous EPs were completely instrumental (aside from beatboxing on the tracks "Dance" and "Fantasy").
