The plot centers on the annual Apple Festival in Ravica, a town in Serbia, and the way young couples selected partners Jabuka was a huge success when premiered in Vienna in October 1894, and now we have what apparently is the first complete recording.

Jabuka-Quadrille, Op. I recognized only one selection from other recordings, the "I Tipferl" polka, which Willi Boskovsky covered with his Johann Strauss Orchestra of Vienna for EMI, rather than the Vienna Philharmonic, at least to my knowledge. Christian Pollack does a solid job leading the Slovak State Philharmonic Orchestra throughout. The orchestra admittedly doesn't have the lightness of touch, or "schwung", in the waltz rhythms compared to the Vienna Philharmonic.
