I should mention that though we all knew that there wouldn’t be, it is still an enormous relief to us that none of this has resulted in bleeding or outward manifestations of pain. Anyway, encouraged greatly by Marilyn’s example, each of us now stakes out a random region of the back to apply our own brand new scalpel. Simultaneously distressed and mystified, we again look at one another in worried silence. We are all, I know, thinking about what we’ve learned after nearly an hour of intense dissection. I suddenly realize that aside from the tingling sensation I now have from my hands - a normal skin reaction to formalin I will come to learn - I’m no longer particularly bothered about touching our cadaver without gloves.
