Digital Shades Vol. 1 is the fourth studio album by French electronic group M83. The album was released on September 3, 2007, and features only founding member Anthony Gonzalez. The album consists of tracks that are more of an ambient texture and quality; some songs have light vocals while the album is mostly instrumental. Some tracks even dip into drone music as well which differs vastly from Gonzalez's earlier explorations of dream pop and shoegaze guitar-influenced song structures

Digital Shades is an interesting album with beautiful, and slow tracks that feel like floating in outer space. The only issue I have with the album is that it gets boring oftentimes and does not seem rewarding with repeated listens.

Most of Digital Shades, Vol. 1 goes by in a blissful blur, with extra-soothing respites such as "Strong and Wasted," which incorporates crashing waves and chirping birds into its digital pastoral paradise. Since these songs are basically an homage to Gonzalez's ambient inspirations, it's not surprising that the album is more pleasant than groundbreaking.
