Lunar Aurora have always had the fame of being a stereotypical arty Black Metal band, often tempted to sound like Emperor but never coming to do it. This means two things: they were both easily taggable and predictable. While not changing the situation, with Ars Moriendi the band would have released their first album to be considered “solid”. Their previous albums were very much more scattered than this, but this offers the same recipe with better combinations. Their brand of nocturnal music here is more worthwhile than usual, so Lunar Aurora newcomers are advised to start here.The following Lunar Aurora albums saw some changes in their sound. Elixir of Sorrow sounded particularly weak and featured an excessive amount of instrumental interudes; Zyklus, a concept about daytime cycle, offered Post-Metal inspired songwriting complete with immense sound/production and some cadenced rhythms, but with overlong intros; Mond found the band with a much more powerful sound and production, but was marred by excessively tragic repetition; Andacht, their last album before going for a hiatus, seemed to be the first one where the band sounded professional: although some of the wild ineptitude of their past work may have gone, the album had a solid ground right from the production, and the interludes served the songs and their subjects and not the contrary.
