A pleasant compilation of works from the paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy) tradition. The paniolos were originally Hispanic (Portuguese) cowboys that came to Hawaii to help teach the natives how to herd cattle after they received a gift of longhorns from a British sea captain in the 1790s. This compilation covers a multitude of songs from the tradition, from both semi-current paniolos and earlier composers (including Queen Liliu). The album covers a good deal of the various subgenres in the tradition, including an earlier chant, some slack key guitar work, and some denser compositions for ukuleles with accompaniment.

Exclusive Prime pricing. Na Mele O Paniolo (Songs Of The Hawaiian Cowboy). What a most unusual and delightful collection of all types of Hawaiian paniolo songs - from chants to lovely ballads, all very Hawaiian in style and completely different from the standard Western type of cowboy song.

Paniolo Slack Key will be a studio recorded album. I feel the multiple studio microphones on the acoustic guitar really bring out the warmth of my 12-string Art Davis guitar like nothing else. With the in-studio technology, I will be able to capture and honor the traditions of these paniolo songs. I am working with a great team of recording engineers, graphic artists and staff members who are helping bring this project to life. Even though I do not anticipate any obstacles, if some should arise I will keep you notified of any delays in final delivery. I am excited to make this happen and am very grateful for your support.
