Jimi Hendrix - Classic Albums: Electric Ladyland [DVD] mp3 download
wish there were 16 hours of information about this recording rather than just the 60 minutes or so that you get here. The DVD has no bonus material - unless you consider the lame "discography" consisting of a mere three discs, with no information on Are You Experienced or Axis: Bold as Love - but the program is cleverly put together and holds one's attention. There is a track selection giving the viewer some mobility and a strong, succinct script which gets the message across efficiently.
Electric Ladyland is the third and final studio album by English-American rock band the Jimi Hendrix Experience. Released by Reprise Records in North America and Track Records in the UK in October 1968, the double album was the only record from the band produced by Jimi Hendrix. By mid-November, it had charted at number one in the United States, where it spent two weeks at the top spot. Electric Ladyland was the Experience's most commercially successful release and their only number one album
This may well be regarded as Jimi's Classic Album, probably for the guest musician credentials alone, but all the albums he recorded for Track Records could also be included. Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland were, for many fans, Jimi's finest, and this superb documentary gives you the nuts and bolts, the sadness and the tears and thankfully, Chas Chandler's and Noel Redding's input, as they have since passed on.
This particular episode on DVD, Jimi Hendrix's "Electric Ladyland," is unique from the other three I had previously seen, in that the artist responsible is no longer with us, and thus unable to enlighten us with his thought process on how and why this album sounds the way it does. We do get the next best thing, though- Eddie Kramer, who was Hendrix's engineer for "Electric Ladyland," picks the master tapes apart, explains Jimi's techniques, singles out interesting sounds and tracks, and talks about the process of making the album. This album, by the way, would be a wonderful candidate for a full-on, music-only . DVD. There is a lot of stereo panning, as there is on the album itself, but the back speakers only seemed to mirror the front ones.
Title: Jimi Hendrix: Electric Ladyland (18 Apr 1997). There is something that is a little un-easy about watching many of the Classic Albums series of making-of album DVDs (others I've seen are from the like of Grateful Dead to Judas Priest, but there are many). It goes along with other music documentaries as well (usually made for video), when they use some archive footage to show clips of the band or artist playing the song, and it's shown very briefly and not all the way through. Especially on a documentary for an album as groundbreaking as Electric Ladyland
