This Time is a blues album by Robert Cray. It was released on August 11, 2009, through Vanguard Records, and Nozzle Records. It is his first studio album in four years, also featuring a reconstructed line-up. The Robert Cray band toured in the United States supporting the album. Robert Cray (born August 1, 1953, Columbus, Georgia, United States) is an American blues guitarist and singer. A five-time Grammy Award winner, he has led his own band, and had an acclaimed solo career. Cray started guitar in his early teens. He attended Denbigh High School in Newport News, Virginia. By the age of twenty, Cray had seen his heroes Albert Collins, Freddie King and Muddy Waters in concert and decided to form his own band; they began playing college towns on the West Coast. Robert Cray has been bridging the lines between blues, soul and R&B for the past four decades, with five Grammy wins and over 20 acclaimed albums. For his latest project, Robert Cray & Hi Rhythm (April 28, Jay-Vee Records), the Blues Hall of Famer traveled to Memphis with his friend, renowned Grammy Award winning producer Steve Jordan, to make a classic soul album with Hi Rhythm, the band that helped create that sound. Jordan and Cray met in 1987 while working on the concert film Hail!
Cray’s new album will be released on the internationally renowned Mascot Label Group. Not only is Robert an artist of the highest calibre, he has worldwide name recognition that garners a tremendous amount of respect. Since the release of his last studio album, the Grammy nominated This Time (2009) and his live album Cookin’ in Mobile (2010), Robert Cray has toured extensively with The Robert Cray Band, performing on various TV shows including Late Show with David Letterman and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
