Album · 2011 · 11 Songs. All Hours Ivy. Alternative.

Ivy is the kind of band that everybody has inevitably heard, even if they don’t know it. Their dreamy lounge stylings have proven a hit among music licensers, and the band’s work has been an ubiquitous presence in television and film for over a decade. On their 1995 debut, Realistic, the New York trio began with a lo-fi, gentle pop sound that leaned toward the melodic. In the 16 years since that album, Ivy has ventured further into lush, atmospheric territory on four additional albums, including one full-length covers record. All Hours sounds strongest on its more upbeat numbers, while the rest of the album consists of chill-out mood pieces that can’t stand out among their previous best, and are pleasant but ultimately forgettable. Essential Tracks: Distant Lights and You Make It So Hard. Video: Frank Ocean – Swim Good.

Ivy have often flirted with an electronic approach over the years, but 2011's All Hours finds the trio delving into the more electronic pop end of their sound and coming up with a cool, late-night club affair. Still featuring the talents of vocalist Dominique Durand, along with Adam Schlesinger and t Andy Chase, All Hours follows up 2005's In the Clear

Ivy - Parisian-born singer Dominique Durand, Andy Chase and Adam Schlesinger - began life as a lo-fi guitar-based band, but have grown more sonically adventurous with each record. The leadoff track to All Hours, 'Distant Lights,' presents a slow-building, shifting soundscape with a relentless, hypnotic beat. The remaining 10 tracks maintain those unmistakable Ivy melodies and hooks, but as a whole represent a bold new chapter for the band. Artist Site Released: September 20, 2011 ON Nettwerk. All Hours is the sixth studio album by American indie pop band Ivy. It was released on September 20, 2011 by Nettwerk. It was the band's first record since In the Clear (2005), ending a six-year hiatus after becoming "bored" and "worried" that Ivy's success would fade away.

All Hours is the band's fifth full-length (not including 2002's all-covers collection, Guestroom). Ivy was formed in 1994 by multi instrumentalists Andy Chase and Adam Schlesinger (Fountains of Wayne) and Parisian-born singer, Dominique Durand. The band has been hailed by critics as a "distinctive brand of evocative, bittersweet po. Go Unlimited. I dunno, I guess it depends on why you liked Ivy in the first place. I'm glad to see the band enjoy greater and greater success with each album, but this is not the Ivy I initially fell in love with. If you liked the driving guitar or even the horn sections from the first couple of albums, "All Hours" may not be for you. If you prefer the cool, semi-detached electronic sounds from "In the Clear," this is more your speed. Not a bad album, don't get me wrong, it's just a little too mellow for my tastes. 7 people found this helpful.

Following 2005's In the Clear, the members took a hiatus from music, allowing Andy Chase and Adam Schlesinger to work on side projects and Dominique Durand and Chase to begin raising a family. After reuniting in 2008, they started work on a project exploring a new sound following concerns that their songs would become obsolete and unimaginative due to their break. All Hours features 11 songs written and produced by Chase and Schlesinger; they take influence from electropop, indie pop and.
