Earl Hines Plays Duke Ellington is a compilation double album set featuring solo recordings by pianist Earl Hines performing compositions by Duke Ellington which were originally released as a series of four LPs that Hines recorded for the Master Jazz label in four separate sessions between 1971 and 1975 and rereleased on the New World label on LP in 1988 and on CD in 1992. It was followed by a second volume in 1997.

He started as an orthodox stride-style player but soon introduced innovations. Earl Kenneth Hines, universally known as Earl "Fatha" Hines (December 28, 1903 – April 22, 1983), was an American jazz pianist and bandleader. He was one of the most influential figures in the development of jazz piano and, according to one major source, is "one of a small number of pianists whose playing shaped the history of jazz". The trumpeter Dizzy Gillespie (a member of Hines's big band, along with Charlie Parker) wrote, "The piano is the basis of modern harmony
