The Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra (German: ster Wien, or RSO Wien) is the orchestra of the Austrian national broadcaster Österreichischer Rundfunk (ORF). Founded in 1969 with the name of the er (ORF Symphony Orchestra), it is the only radio orchestra in the country. It acquired its current name in 1996. The orchestra performs in a number of venues, including the following: Radiokulturhaus, Vienna.

Most of the Vienna RSO performances are broadcast on the radio, particularly on the Österreich 1 station, but also internationally. Through its growing presence on television, as well as its collaboration with the FM4 young people's station, the Vienna RSO is constantly reaching out to new music lovers. Composers Luciano Berio, Friedrich Cerha, Peter Eötvös, HK Gruber, Hans Werner Henze, Ernst Krenek, Bruno Maderna and Krzysztof Penderecki have all conducted the orchestra. In 2018 the Vienna RSO won the renowned ICMA in the category "Symphonic Music" for its 3-CD-set "Martinů: The Symphonies". In addition Cornelius Meister received an Opus Klassik award as "Conductor of the Year".

It masters rarities of the 18th century as equally as contemporary premiere performances. The orchestra performs in the Musikverein, Konzerthaus and Theater an der Wien. The Vienna RSO is one of the three top orchestras alongside the Philharmonic and Symphoniker. It originated out of the orchestra of Austrian Radio in 1969 for the purpose of presenting contemporary orchestral works.

The Wiener Konzerthaus ( Vienna Concert House or Hall) is one of the largest and most artistically progressive institutions in international musical life. During the course of a season, which extends from September to June, some 750 wide-ranging events take place and more than 600,000 visitors can listen to around 2,500 different compositions. 61, which was followed by Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony.
