If the songs were as good as the performances and the production, Fleshtones Vs. Reality would rank with the band's finest work, but sadly that's not quite the case; while there are a few winners here, there are just as many obvious miscalculations, and it's hard to say if "Way up Here" rips off the Kinks quite as obviously as.

This release ranks as one of the band's best, most cohesive LPs. It's easily up there with Roman Gods, and in my opinion plays even better than Hexbreaker. Mirror, Mirror, Way Down South, Another Direction and the uncompromising, Return of the Leather Kings, are serious, glorious, ragged examples of why this band is so important to those of us who know when a party needs a swift kick in the butt.
