The Hunger is the fifth studio album by American recording artist Michael Bolton. It was released in 1987 by Columbia Records. This was his breakthrough album, with the hits "That's What Love Is All About" and the Otis Redding cover "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay". Zelma Redding, the widow of Otis Redding, said Bolton's performance of "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" moved her so much "that it brought tears to my eyes.

Bolton played from 1972 to 1975 for the New England Patriots and played from 1976 to 1982 for the Cleveland Browns. During his coaching career, he served as an assistant coach at Norfolk State University, Delaware State University and Liberty University. Michael Bolton is the third studio album by American recording artist Michael Bolton. It was Bolton's first record to be released, in 1983, on Columbia Records. This was also the first time that Bolton recorded under his stage name; his previous releases, Michael Bolotin and Everyday of My Life, had been released under his given name, Michael Bolotin. It features then future Kiss guitarist Bruce Kulick on lead guitar, rotating with Bolton himself.
