King’s first album for the Stax label combines his hard, unflashy guitar playing with the sleek sound of the label’s house band, Booker T. and the MG’s. Hits such as Crosscut Saw and Laundromat Blues earned King a new rock & roll audience. Built around the proto power ballad Beth, this is a ridiculously over-the-top party-rock album that just gets better with age. Listen here. It's one of the weirdest Motown records ever. Gaye's divorce settlement required him to make a new album and pay the royalties to his ex-wife – the sister of Motown boss Berry Gordy. So Gaye made this bitterly funny double LP of breakup songs, including "You Can Leave, But It's Going to Cost Yo.
As the better half - no offense to the also awesome Big Boi - of Outkast, Andre 3000 was the limber anchor behind the group’s impeccable five-album run, one unmatched by any other hip-hop act in terms of quality, success and innovation. Need more proof Nas belongs here? He defeated none other than Jay Z in the best rap war of all time, with perhaps the most scathing diss track of all time, Ether. Michael Ochs Archives/Getty Images.
His reign as King of the Blues has been as long as that of any monarch on earth. King continues to wear his crown well. At age 76, he is still light on his feet, singing and playing the blues with relentless passion. Time has no apparent effect on . other than to make him more popular, more cherished, more relevant than ever. Don’t look for him in some kind of semi-retirement; look for him out on the road, playing for people, popping up in a myriad of . commercials, or laying down tracks for his next album. For more than half a century, Riley B. King – better known as . King – has defined the blues for a worldwide audience. Since he started recording in the 1940s, he has released over fifty albums, many of them classics. He was born September 16, 1925, on a plantation in Itta Bena, Mississippi, near Indianola.
One of King Crimson's best albums ever, extremely hard to beat, though ITCOTCK comes first. Have you listened closely to "Starless"? Now THAT's progressive. 4 out the 5 songs are so well written and arranged it's hard to imagine how they could be bettered. A 'dark' album with lyrics reflecting subjects like fear, loss and depression. Bruford's drumming is brilliant, Fripp's guitar work is both intricate and surprisingly simple, Wetton's bass playing is powerful and his vocals clear and expressive. The others aren't bad either. Every song on this album is spectacular and it is better than itcotck!
