1996 is a 1996 album by Japanese composer and pianist Ryuichi Sakamoto. It contains a selection of Sakamoto's most popular compositions plus two new compositions, all arranged for a standard piano trio. The arrangement of "Bibo no Aozora" that appears on this album has appeared in several film and television projects; one notable example is the film Babel, whose soundtrack features both the 1996 version and the /04 version of the song. Ryuichi Sakamoto – piano. Jaques Morelenbaum – cello.
In 2016 Ryuichi Sakamoto composed the music for the Korean thriller IKARI (Rage). The film features a beautiful and moody piano-driven score by Ryuichi Sakamoto. Its main theme is unforgettable. This album is a must have for all the fans of Ryuichi Sakamoto and a great opportunity to bring exposure to the less known work of the composer in Japan and Korea.
Musician, Composer, Producer. Japanese composer Ryuichi Sakamoto's work includes pioneering electronic music as a member of Yellow Magic Orchestra, globally inspired rock albums, classical pieces, minimal/ambient music collaborations, and over 30 film scores. The pressure I had was that the album would be the first one in eight years, which is almost a decade. Only one album in a decade means if I live for another 10 years, there will be only one other album. That would be it! I was nervous about that.
Inventive and prolific Japanese electronic musician, composer, and arranger; co-founder of the vastly influential Yellow Magic Orchestra.
Ryuichi Sakamoto Illustrated Musical Encyclopedia (10 records/ Virgin 1986). Sure there’s elements of the production that are cloyingly of its time, but it’s hard not to be charmed by something as suave and unabashedly ebullient as ‘Etude’. Jazz-funk-fusion that verges on easy listening sounds like a nightmare on paper but like many of his genre-defying concoctions the allure is in the listening.
