Instead of being a one-off comeback, 2002's Heathen turned out to be where David Bowie settled into a nice groove for his latter-day career, if 2003's Reality is any indication. Working once again with producer Tony Visconti, Bowie again returns to a sound from the past, yet tweaks it enough to make it seem modern, not retro. Last time around, he concentrated on his early-'70s sound, creating an amalgam of Hunky Dory through Heroes

David Bowie's final 2000s release is kind of a mixed bag for me. I thought that overall it was a decent album, but this really could have been one of his best releases to date but was ruined by a few poor decisions. So, when this started I was having a good time with. It wasn't anything particularly special, but all of the beginning tracks were just so catchy and lovable, and the writing is - as usual with Bowie - really good. New Killer Star, Pablo Picasso and Never Get Old were all really. Reality presents some solid writing from Bowie, but it’s weighed down by some poor production choices. Fav Tracks: Bring Me the Disco, New Killer Star, Reality, Fall Dog Bombs the Moon, Never Get Old. Least Fav Track: Days. David Bowie was an anime man all along! I FUCKING KNEW IT! 7.

Surprisingly on of the strongest efforts of Bowie's career, Reality presents him in a mostly conventional pop-rock context. Because of his reputation, this seems like mediocrity waiting to happen but Bowie manages to shine almost as bright as he did during his heyday in the 70s.

This album is cool, surprisingly good. I love New Killer Star, the opening song.

A weak and derivative effort for Bowie at the time, I haven't warmed much too it since its release in late 2003. Aside from 2 or 3 good tracks (of which 'New Killer Star' was easily the most memorable), it seemed like a rushed and rather flimsy follow-up to Heathen.
