Latyrx (The Album) is the first studio album by American hip hop duo Latyrx, consisting of Lyrics Born and Lateef the Truthspeaker. It was released on Solesides in 1997, and it was re-released on Quannum Projects in 2002.

The Second Album is the second studio album by Latyrx, an American hip hop duo consisting of Lateef the Truthspeaker and Lyrics Born. It was released via Latyramid on November 5, 2013. It includes productions from Jel, Amp Live, and Tune-Yards, among others.

Live At 9. '94" was recorded live at UC Davis college station KDVS in 1994. It features Bay Area jazz musician John Tchicai and funk/jazz band Free Association. Track C3 recorded & mixed at Live Oak Studios, Berkeley, CA. A2 to B1, B3, C2, D1 to D4 recorded & mixed at The Glue Factory, San Francisco, CA. A1 recorded at Nash Studios, Oakland, CA and mixed at The Glue Factory. C2 recorded & mixed live at Studio A, KDVS by someone whom we don't remember.

Sixteen years separates The Album and The Second Album. That's a preposterous amount of time, even when you consider everything that the two members of epochal Bay Area indie rap duo Latyrx have been up to in the interim. Lyrics Born has lent his good-natured conversational virtuosity to a string of adequate-to-great solo albums (great-to-adequate if you're going chronologically). But consider everything that's happened in underground hip-hop over that stretch: labels have risen and fallen, more than a dozen different movements, regions, subgenres, and styles have infiltrated each other, and the Solesides/Quannum collective that launched some of the best hip-hop records of the late 90s has largely receded into the background. Why that is owes a little to the fickleness of enduring fashionability in hip-hop, even the alt-rap sectors-but long-term inspiration isn't a common commodity, either.

The Album is the first studio album by Latyrx, an American hip hop duo consisting of Lateef the Truthspeaker and Lyrics Born.

Album · 1997 · 14 Songs. See All. The Second Album.

The track that opens Latyrx’s The Album is titled ‘Latyrx. This tune features both Lyrics Born and Lateef the Truth Speaker, the two fantastic MCs that make up the group, rapping completely independent rhymes at the same time. Slapped over a slow-boiling DJ Shadow beat, this double rhyme is confusion at its finest. The duo spent a year performing and recording. In 1997, The Album was finally released, much to the delight of fans of 1996’s eponymous release, which at that point was B-Side to a solo Lateef single. Unfortunately, such fans were few and far-between, as this so-called SoleSides" crew hardly had a reputation at the time. It also didn’t help that distribution was incredibly poor. The album seemed to constantly be out of print. Those able to obtain a copy were certainly satisfied though, and today we can look back on it with a more informed state of mind.

This isn't the Latyrx that won over backpackers and Cali-funk fans back in '97-far from it. It's not much of a reunion, that's for sure, and sixteen years is a long time to wait for a sophomore slump.
