Get Moving With Ella Jenkins 1975. You'll Sing a Song and I'll Sing a Song 1966. Born in St. Louis but raised in Chicago, Jenkins began singing professionally in 1956. Over the course of books, videos, and numerous albums, she educated children about everything from reading to geography to dance. Over time she even began teaching their instructors as well; through her famous Adventures in Rhythm workshops, Jenkins demonstrated new group-vocalizing and rhythm-building methods to music teachers. In 1999, she released her 30th album with Smithsonian Folkways Recordings, Ella Jenkins & a Union of Friends Pulling Together. As the times changed, Jenkins changed with them
Designed by: Anna Maria Walisser University of Alberta Smithsonian Intern Summary: In these two lessons, accompanied by music from Get Moving with Ella Jenkins, young students can develop comfort singing, clapping, and moving along with musical tracks, while also developing an understanding of basic musical concepts (beat, volume, notes, and rests). a. Ask students to listen to the song again, and try and guess what kind of instruments Ella is playing. b. Explain to the students that Ella is going to sing first, and then the students will join in when the children and teachers on the track join in. c. Have students clap along with the children on the track.
