Опубликовано: 25 авг. 2016 г. "This lyrical, introverted, and sometimes exquisite set of duets by guitarist Jim Hall and bassist Red Mitchell was originally made for John Snyder's Artist House label and later reissued on CD by MHS.
Bassist Red Mitchell and tenor saxophonist Warne Marsh teamed up several times in the 1980s including for this duet album. Rather than disguise the song titles (a practice that Marsh had learned from Lennie Tristano), the duo performs straightforward yet exploratory renditions of eight standards, plus Mitchell's original "Undertow.

Keith Moore "Red" Mitchell (September 20, 1927 – November 8, 1992), was an American jazz double-bassist, composer, lyricist, and poet. Mitchell was born on September 20, 1927, in New York City. His younger brother, Whitey Mitchell, also became a jazz bassist. Mitchell was raised in New Jersey by a father who was an engineer and loved music, and a mother who loved poetry. His first instruments were piano, alto saxophone, and clarinet.
Bassist Red Mitchell joined forces with tenor saxophonist Warne Marsh for a duo engagement at the Fasching Club in Stockholm, with music from two separate nights being recorded and subsequently issued on two separate CDs. This release combines all of the music in one set. The combination of these two instruments without additional accompaniment is not unheard of, and as Don Byas and Slam Stewart revealed during their meeting at Town Hall in 1945, there are viable possibilities for this pairing if the players are on the same wavelength.
