Jane Mallory Birkin, OBE (born 14 December 1946) is an English actress, singer, songwriter, and model. She attained international fame and notability for her decade-long musical and romantic partnership with Serge Gainsbourg. She also had a prolific career as an actress in British and French cinema. A native of London, Birkin began her career as an actress, appearing in minor roles in Michelangelo Antonioni's Blowup (1966), and Kaleidoscope (1966).

Her 'best' album is probably 'Babe Alone In Babylon', while the two French Master Serie volumes are probably the best of 'Best of's, but this is a good retrospective, featuring some of the more recent of her work, as well as much of the earlier. And that earlier work is still, well, breathless, vulnerable, sexy, sometimes sensual, with her voice making a nice contrast with Gainsbourg's limousine-oaked death-rattle. Jane's appeal, I would argue, is largely other than musical.
