Gilberto Gil. Biography by Richard Skelly. A major innovator of Brazilian pop with a career that stretches back to the early 1960s.
Gilberto Gil (also commonly referred to as Gilberto Gil (Frevo Rasgado) to differentiate it from Gil's other self-titled releases) is the second studio album by Gilberto Gil, originally released in early 1968. The album features a blending of traditional Brazilian styles such as samba and bossa nova with American rock and roll. It also mixes Rogério Duprat's orchestral arrangements with the electric guitars of Brazilian rock group Os Mutantes.
Astrud Gilberto has never been properly anthologized by Verve Records; although they've released a number of compilations over the years, none of them have been definitive, and most of them have been rather skimpy. 1987's The Silver Collection, originally released only in Europe but later imported to North America, is an idiosyncratic selection. It omits "The Girl From Ipanema," her biggest hit, includes all 11 tracks from her 1965 release The Astrud Gilberto Album, and adds on a selection of singles and album tracks recorded from 1965 to 1970 with no particular logic.
Gilberto Gil (also commonly referred to as Gilberto Gil (Cérebro Eletrônico) to differentiate it from Gil's other self-titled releases) is the third solo album by Gilberto Gil, originally released in 1969. The album was arranged by Rogério Duprat, and has a strong element of psychedelic rock to it, being considered by some to be his most experimental album

Gil began recording in 1962 and released his first LP in 1967. His breakthrough came a year later with the fully-fledged tropicália album Gilberto Gil (Fevo Rasgado). Gilberto Gil Gilberto Gil (Fevo Rasgado) (Philips LP, 1968). Its bracketed subtitle, which alludes to someone who is both fiery and ripped, is the name of the opening track on the album, a necessary contrivance given the number of self-titled Gil releases. Gilberto Gil, Caetano Veloso & Gal Costa Tropicália Ou Panis Et Circensis (Philips LP, 1968).
