The makings of the Ideal Free Distribution came together in 1997 when Eric Griffy, Tony Miller, and Craig Morris decided to make some recordings in Eric's bedroom of some of the primitive ramblings trapped in their heads.

The ideal free distribution is a simple and elegant game the-oretic model that lies at the basis of many other behavioral ecology models that explain the relationship between animal behavior and population dynamics (Fretwell and Lucas 1969; Sutherland 1996). The IFD model predicts how animals should distribute themselves over resource habitats or patches.
