Jamey Johnson (born July 14, 1975) is an American country music artist. Signed to BNA Records in 2005, Johnson made his debut with his single "The Dollar", the title track to his 2006 album The Dollar. Johnson was dropped from BNA in 2006 and signed to Mercury Nashville Records in March 2008, releasing his second album, the gold-certified That Lonesome Song. This album produced two singles, the Top 10 hit "In Color" and "High Cost of Living".

And what makes a great artist in this genre if not these types of real-life experiences? The deep-voiced Johnson, who is also a lyrically insightful songwriter, once sang a duet with Gretchen Wilson on a demo for a publishing company, and he has the potential to be the Redneck Woman's male equivalent - or maybe the next Toby Keith - and not simply because one of the best tracks is the power ballad "Redneck Side

The Dollar" is a debut song written and recorded by American country music artist Jamey Johnson. It was released in August 2005 as the first single the title track from his debut album The Dollar. The song reached on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts in early 2006, and was the only chart single from its album. Johnson was inspired to write the song after taking a job as a construction worker, thus causing him to be away from his own young daughter for two months.

Album · 2006 · 11 Songs. The Dollar's loudest track, "Ray Ray's Juke Joint," lights up a backwoods honky-tonk that even gentrification can't quiet, and every other song on this tradition-oriented country LP can do the same. Sure, fiddle-driven love song "It Was Me" and twangy ballad "My Saving Grace" (about coming to terms with an alcoholic dad) may have a low-key feel, but the vivid stories come through loud and clear. The characters here are both complex and familiar, and the singer’s gentle, steady voice brings dignity to their struggles and dreams.

With a distinct, identifiable vocal snarl and the ability to write songs without constantly using half a dozen Music Row collaborators, Alabama native Jamey Johnson forcefully asserts his neotraditional bent on "The Dollar," a beautifully crafted high-impact cautionary about the modern conundrum of work versus family.
