Kenneth Stuart Stringfellow (born October 30, 1968) is an American singer, songwriter, t, arranger, and producer. Best known for his work with The Posies, . and the re-formed Big Star, Stringfellow's discography includes more than 200 albums. Stringfellow was born in Hollywood, California. His father, a television executive, relocated the family frequently as his career developed, and Stringfellow went to elementary schools in New York, Chicago, and Detroit.

In 1988, Stringfellow and Auer began playing together as The Posies and self-released their first album, Failure, which included some of the earlier material they'd written separately. Immediately after the record's release, Stringfellow left the University of Washington to focus on the Posies full-time. Failure was well received by the press and put into regular rotation at college and commercial radio stations, prompting Stringfellow and Auer to quickly assemble a full band

Ken Stringfellow and Jon Auer started The Posies while they were still teenagers in the Pacific Northwest. Nearly 30 years later, they're continuing to put out music in their own terms - in albums like this year's Solid States, their eighth overall, that they sell online - but also in tours they book themselves in dozens of "secret" locations on what they call "pop-up tours. Ken Stringfellow: Oh golly. I think there are several things at play. When we started we were just children, so our level of maturity and our areas of interest have just expanded so much. We were very naive guys from a small town, with a certain kind of musical aptitude. Our first album, that was largely recorded and mixed in a home studio in Bellingham, Washington, in 1987, is pretty adept. It's just that its perkiness, which is part of its charm, is the product of not knowing much about the world.
