Neil Young is the self-titled debut studio album by Canadian musician Neil Young following his departure from Buffalo Springfield in 1968, issued on Reprise Records. Some sources place the album's release date on January 22, 1969, while other sources have the release date as Young's 23rd birthday, November 12, 1968. It was then partially remixed and re-released in November 1969, but at no time has the album ever charted on the Billboard 200.

Storytone arrived at the end of a year that already saw another new Neil Young album - that would be A Letter Home, a collection of folk covers recorded at Jack White's Voice-O-Graph direct-to-vinyl recording booth at Third Man Records - which itself was only the tip of the iceberg that was Neil's 2014. That spring, Young launched a high-end digital audio system called Pono, which was followed by the summer news that he was divorcing Pegi, his wife of 36 years, an event that led to a fresh feud with David Crosby that then led to Young saying he would never play with CSN again and,.

Neil Young's second album of 2014 couldn't be any more different than the first. The stripped-down, all-covers collection 'A Letter Home' was recorded in a vintage vinyl recording booth at Jack White's Nashville studio; 'Storytone,' which includes 10 new songs written by Young, was made with assistance from a 92-piece orchestra, choir and big band. But they have one thing in common: a sense of intimacy you usually don't get when Young plugs in and rages gloriously with a rock band.

Neil Young's new album Storytone involves ten tracks recorded live in front of an orchestra. Despite the manic activity of Neil Young's 2014-which involves a tech startup, anti-oil advocacy, a book and panitings-the high concept of Storytone barely raises an eyebrow. Neil Young's new album Storytone involves ten tracks recorded live in front of an orchestra. Even for an artist with the mercurial track record of Neil Young, this has been a pretty strange year. Since turning 68 last November, Young has become a tech startup figurehead, an enemy of Canadian conservatives and oil companies, a second-time author, and a watercolor artist.

I love this record.... This is Neil Young's last great album .....
2014 was one of the busiest years of Neil Young's career. It also was one of the most personally challenging years for the man, as his marriage came to an end. Instead of mourning his losses, Young went full steam ahead and released his second album of the year. Storytone is maybe the most unique record in a discography that has seen many genre experiments. The music here is orchestral, swinging, loose, bluesy, and reflective. Young has made a career out of surprising us with songs that not only challenge him as an artist but us as his muse. Young was right when he said this was an album of "rare beauty." Key tracks are Who's Gonna Stand Up?, Glimmer, and When I Watch You Sleeping.
