Together! is a jazz album by drummers Philly Joe Jones and Elvin Jones recorded in 1961 and released on the Atlantic label. Le Roi" (Dave Baker) - 6:00. Beau-ty" (Philly Joe Jones) - 12:53. Brown Sugar" (Walter Davis, J. - 14:58. Blue Mitchell - trumpet. Curtis Fuller - trombone. Hank Mobley - tenor saxophone. Wynton Kelly - piano. Paul Chambers - bass. Elvin Jones, Philly Joe Jones - drums.

The Philly Joe Jones Quintet backed Philly Joe on this studio recording. This ensemble was comprised of Mike Downs on cornet, Bill Barron on tenor saxophone, Walter Davis Jr. on piano and Paul Chambers on bass. Note - there were two extra tracks recorded in during this session that were never issued or included with the original release of this album as Atlantic LP 1340: Joe's Delight and I'll Keep You In My Heart. If you like this album, I recommend that you also check out a collaboration between him and Elvin Jones - another much admired drummer who started out as Philly Joe's disciple - that is titled Together!. It was also recorded for Atlantic a little less than a year later and is a study of contrasts between two great drummers, as well as a smoking ensemble of jazz greats.

Philly Joe Jones was born with the name Joseph Rudolph Jones in the city of Philadelphia on July 15, 1923. His mother, a piano teacher taught him the basics in music. He established himself as "Philly Joe" Jones, from the name of the city of his birth, to distinguish himself from the mainstay Count Basie’s drummer, Jo Jones. On his album were players that would become well known in the business: Nat Adderley, Julian Priester, Johnny Griffin and Tommy Flanagan. In his prime, Jones won great recognition.
