Mozarteumorchester Salzburg. Stiftung Mozarteum, Großer Saal. Thursday concert 1:Mozarteumorchester. The Salzburg Foundation’s international projects are an important pillar of its work, helping to foster an understanding of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart as man and artist through cooperative ventures that extend beyond national frontiers. Approximately 80 Mozart associations worldwide have as their common goal the cultivation and dissemination of Mozart’s musical heritage. KlangKarton is the name of the young/youth programme of the Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation. It includes concerts, workshops, guided tours in our museums and projects on related themes.

Stiftung Mozarteum – Großer Saal. In 1856, the 100th anniversary of Mozart’s birth, an association was founded with the aim of setting up a music school, with a library, archives and concert hall, devoted to Mozart. Conversion work took place from 1910 to 1914 according to plans drawn up by Richard Berndl. Financial problems of the International Mozarteum Foundation were offset by nationalising the teaching part of the foundation’s work in 1922 with the result that nowadays two completely separate corporate bodies exist. The Mozarteum University has in the meantime moved most of its departments into its own building on the Mirabellplatz.

The International Mozarteum Foundation (Internationale Stiftung Mozarteum) was founded in 1880 in Salzburg with its primary concern being the life and work of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Closely affiliated with the Mozarteum University Salzburg, it was preceded by the Cathedral Music Association and Mozarteum of 1841.

The Salzburg Mozarteum Foundation is the leading international institution for preserving and disseminating this invaluable cultural heritage, and presents the very many different facets of Mozart to the world. The Cathedral Music Association and Mozarteum was founded on 22 April 1841 on the initiative of a group of committed citizens of Salzburg. Besides organising concerts the association promoted musical education. In 1844, Mozart’s son, Franz Xaver Mozart, authorized that the manuscripts and fragments in his estate, the clavichord and the entire library should be bequeathed to the Mozarteum. The centenary of Mozart’s birth was celebrated in 1856. Many artists and singing societies took part and a first Mozart Exhibition took place in Mozart’s Birthplace, Getreidegasse No. 9.

The Dialoge Festival pursues a more innovative direction than the international Mozart Week. Since its premiere in Mozart Year 2006, this experimental format approaches Mozart’s compositions through a wide variety of artistic forms. Through music, dance, video and drama – often intermixed – this festival allows Salzburg audiences to experience the sounds of Mozart in exciting new ways.
