De Caifanes a Jaguares. Caifanes released four albums between 1988 and 1994, and several selections on De Caifanes a Jaguares date back to this period, most notably the hits "La Célula Que Explota," "Mátenme Porque Me Muero," and "La Negra Tomasa. Highlights from Hernández's less celebrated work with Jaguares comprise the remainder of De Caifanes a Jaguares.

Caifanes is the self-titled debut studio album by Mexican rock band Caifanes. It was released in 1988 after the success of their first singles, "Mátenme porque me muero" and "La bestia humana". The original release of the album did not contain the songs "La negra Tomasa" and "Perdí mi ojo de venado", which were released in 1989 as singles and later incorporated into the album when it was re-released on Compact disc in 1993. It is undergoing a re-pressing process as of March 2011.

Mexico City's Caifanes exploded onto the rock en español scene with this self-titled debut steeped in British rock influences and Latin American folklore. On it, they catapult cumbia into the future with "La Negra Tomasa," refashioning the traditional genre with chilly New Wave production; their fondness for The Cure comes to the fore on the goth-leaning "Cuentame Tu Vida. Their secret weapons throughout are Alejandro Marcovich's echoing guitar and Saúl Hernández's haunting wail, which create a combustible combination-radical for its time and spine-tingling.
