Holly in the Hills is a compilation album by American rock and roll singer Buddy Holly, including songs featuring Bob Montgomery originally released under "Buddy & Bob". The album was released as an LP record in both mono and stereo formats in January 1965 (see 1965 in music). Holly in the Hills was Buddy Holly's fifth posthumously released album and the fourth album to feature previously unreleased material. The original recordings were overdubbed by the Fireballs in 1964 and 1965.

On its face, Holly in the Hills was seemingly one of the more artistically dubious Buddy Holly albums to appear posthumously. Built around Holly's pre-Crickets recordings circa 1955, as part of the duo of Buddy & Bob, the familiar Holly voice is present and easy to appreciate, though he's sharing the spotlight with Bob Montgomery and doing a repertory that's steeped thoroughly in country music, complete with fiddle accompaniment ("Baby It's Love," "I Gambled My Heart"). Holly was beginning to discover rock & roll and work out a sound of his own,.

Holly's backing group on live. dates at this time included Tommy Allsup, whom he had brought into the Crickets earlier to play lead guitar (it is a mistake to assume that Holly fulfilled this role on all his records). Other notable musicians with whom Holly worked at this time were saxophonist King Curtis, and the young Waylon Jennings, whose first solo record, 'Joie Blon', was produced by Buddy Holly. Early in 1959, Holly's career was at a crossroads.

Holly in the Hills is among the first compilations of music taken from the Texas-based "Buddy & Bob" radio show, recorded with childhood friend Bob Montgomery. Also included here is a couple of Crickets' tracks and other stray material. The majority of the Buddy & Bob tracks show a strong traditional country bent; little of it sounds like the Buddy Holly we know today, and what's more, Montgomery's voice is dominant when the two sing together. Montgomery largely chose not to explore the new rock'n'roll sound and his career largely wound down soon after Holly became famous, but the two remained friends and occasional songwriting partners until Holly's death. Easily the best Buddy & Bob track is the blazing "Down the Line", the one exception where Montgomery did play rock'n'roll. Other standouts include "Fool's Paradise" and "I Wanna Play House With You."The fidelity of the Buddy & Bob tracks are considerably lo-fi and there are occasional drops in the sound due to tape damage. But the music here is never less than listenable and mostly sounds excellent. Other compilations of the Buddy & Bob radio show would surface in subsequent years, making this album largely superfluous.
