Music video by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark performing Electricity.

Electricity" is the 1979 debut single of the English group Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark, featured on their eponymous debut album the following year. Inspired by Kraftwerk's "Radioactivity", the song addresses society's wasteful usage of energy sources. Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphreys sing the lead vocals on the track together in unison.

OMD Electric English "The Future Will Be Synthpop ". Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark is known most here in the United States for the song the contributed to the Pretty In Pink Soundtrack If You Leave. This is the song that lead singer Andy McCluskey says ruined there career. After that song they were not taken seriously and their fame began to faultier. Now in 2013 their second album after reuniting Electric English goes even further in their new craft. Electric English is actually a concept album with a theme of frustration of how the future has not turned out the way we may have thought it should both technologically and personally. The music is modern but with very strong connections to the past. However, it’s now really their past with the Romantic style but more the of the earlier synth pop music by groups like Kraftwerk and Yaz/Yazoo.

English Electric' from start to finish is hugely entertaining. Regardless of how Kraftwerk inspired it may be, it is accomplished with aplomb. Tracks like 'Metroland', 'The Future Will Be Silent' and 'Helen of Troy’ are simply stellar. As a long-time fan of this band, I'm grateful it was not an album filled with esoteric mayhem or overly experimentally and therefor alienating. The cohesion of the album as a whole and the.

Wow, the critics have been tough on this excellent OMD release. 'English Electric' from start to finish is hugely entertaining. The cohesion of the album as a whole and the accomplished single tracks really make for an intelligent synth-pop gem of a record. My suggestion: Own it. Too few synth-pop bands come close to achieving what OMD does consistently.
