With this year’s Dead to the World, Page Hamilton’s decision to trade the visceral sonic squalor of classics like Strap it on and Meantime for a more straightforward engagement with vocal melodies finally makes sense.

We are incredibly excited to announce that Dead To The World - the first new Helmet album in six years - will be released worldwide on October 28th. The album was produced by Page Hamilton, mixed by Jay Baumgardner, and recorded by Toshi Kasai. Catch phrases, punchlines, guns, bluster, ammo, incivility, impatience, murder. You, me, us, them, life, liberty and the pursuit of property.

HELMET's new studio album, "Dead To The World", will be released on October 28 via earMUSIC. The long-anticipated disc - the band's first in six years - comes with heavy guitar riffs, blasting drums and the distinctive voice of frontman Page Hamilton. The album is energy at its purest form. Every track adds its unique flavor to mix of hard rock, alternative, metal and punk, showing the world again how versatile a rock album can be. Produced by Page Hamilton himself and mixed by award-winning record producer, engineer and mixer Jay Baumgardner, "Dead To The World".

Helmet were one of the best and most innovative bands of the 90s, but since their return it’s fair to say those heights haven’t been scaled again – and Dead To The World is another disappointing effort from a band capable of so much more. If you’re new to Helmet, they’re great, but you should start elsewhere. Metal Hammer Newsletter.

This October, 90s metal greats Helmet will return with their first new album since 2010’s Seeing Eye Dog. Page Hamilton and company have announced Dead to the World, due October 28th. As Brooklyn Vegan reports, Helmet has also announced a US headline tour with Local H (dates below). If you need a dose of Helmet before Dead to the World drops next month, check out the forthcoming Helmet tribute album, Meantime. The album includes covers of classic Helmet songs by KEN Mode, Rosetta, Meek is Murder, and more.

I won't claim to be a lifetime fan of Helmet. I wasn't alive during their heyday but introduced myself to them via Meantime a couple of years ago and became hooked on everything. Strap It On, Meantime and Aftertaste are my personal favourites for differing reasons, and there's a combination of it all on Dead to the World. "Life or Death" is vintage Helmet, there's a detour into more atmospheric rock in "Dead to the World", and a very random cover of Elvis Costello's "Green Shirt". It's still a Helmet record and "I Love My Guru" is worth the listen alone. Helmet's best song since reforming in 2004, it's nothing more than a visceral assault on the senses that will take you back to the Strap It On era. On the whole it's a Helmet album, that's it, and one I've waited a while for. Definitely worth a listen, though go in with an open mind and it'll surprise you.
