I don't know what Kan is singing about; however, his sincerity is overwhelming. His voice leaps like a spider over the lyrics and conveys a sense of unaffected acceptance of the misery of life, without ever sliding into maudlin self-pity. The guitar is present in most songs, with the occasional visit from a flute, piano and saxophone to spice up some of the tracks.

Yume wa Yoru Hiraku" (夢は夜ひらく, lit. "Dream Opens At Night") is a Japanese song. The song was composed by Komei Sone. The song was originally noted down in a juvenile classification home. Kan Mikami (三上寛) takes much of his inspiration from the school of singer/songwriters and blues vocalists. From the rural district of Tsugaru, Mikami's parched voice and plaintive electric guitar (sometimes the only backing) reveals the true spirit of the folkish sad blues, even though he sings in Japanese. Of course, comparisons to Muddy Waters or Howlin' Wolf are just as far from the truth as Bertolt Brecht or Jacques Brel, but the guitarist weaves elements of all of them to create an undeniably unique style.
